Catoosa, a Cherokee word (Gha-too-see) meaning
"a hill," is double-countied. Most of Catoosa is in Rogers County,
but the southern part is in Wagoner County. My ancestors were
among the first to settle here after the "Trail
of Tears" around 1839, and many of my relatives are still around here today. One of my relatives, known as
"The Cherokee Kid," America's Favorite Cowboy, was Will Rogers.
